Some of you may remember a post that I submitted a month or so ago about my two old shooting partners building me a new bow to shoot. I posted some pictures of it on here in the archery forum.
Well after they went to all the trouble, and especially after thinking of their old buddy the way they did, I figured the least I could do was to shoot the darned thing.
So on March 8th and 9th I signed up and shot the N.F.A.A. Northwest Sectional Championship shoot in Tigard, Oregon. This shoot was for the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montanna, Wyoming and Alaska. There are several places in all the six states that host the tournament, so that everyone has an opportunity to shoot in it.
Then on March 29th and 30th, I shot in the Oregon State Indoor Championship shoot held at 7 Feathers Resort and Casino in Canyonville, Oregon.
I shoot in the Senior Barebow Division. Senior is 55 and over. I used to shoot freestyle which is pretty much anything you bring. Front sight with 6 power lens, peepsight in the string, level, mechanical rest, mechanical release, any stabilizer and pretty much anything else you want to put on the bow. I developed a problem in my left shoulder from an old injury that won’t allow me shoot that type of equipment anymore, so I actually quit archery for a couple of years. Then I decided to give barebow a try. The barebow division is pretty much just that. A bow with a rest and stabilizer and that’s it. No sight, peep sight, no release aids of any kinds (fingers only), I shot so well in that division I stayed with it and have been doing really good with this type of shooting. In fact I beat a lot of the freestyle shooters.
Well I won both shoots. In the Sectional I shot a 270 and a 280 for a two day total of 550 out of a possible 600. In the State Indoor I shot a 281 and a 277 for a two day total of 558 out of a possible 600. I set a new State record. I beat the old record by 62 points. When I shot the Northwest Sectional, I beat the guy in first place in the adult division (ages 18 to 55) by 61 points. So my buddies built me a real winner.
Here are some pictures of the Casino where the State shoot was held and some of the stuff that I won. Not bad for an OLD GUY? JIMHS,,PROUD JMJ MEMBER. ![]()
